Description: The 2012 film “Amour” tells the story of Anne and Georges, a retired couple in their eighties who were once piano teachers. One day, after attending a concert by Anne’s former student, Alexandre, they return home to discover an attempted break-in. The next morning, while having breakfast, Anne suffers a stroke, leaving her unresponsive. Though she regains consciousness, the stroke leaves her partially paralyzed, requiring Georges to become her primary caregiver. Anne makes Georges promise not to send her to a hospital or nursing home. Despite his dedication, the strain of caregiving takes its toll. After a second stroke leaves Anne mentally impaired, Georges continues to care for her, refusing to break his promise. Their daughter, Eva, suggests placing Anne in professional care, but Georges dismisses the idea. As Anne’s condition deteriorates, Georges remains committed to honoring her wishes, even as he struggles with the emotional and physical demands of his role.
