Description: “August Underground’s Penance” (2007) continues the series by depicting the lives of serial killers, Peter and his girlfriend Crusty, through their own camera recordings. Unlike the earlier films, this installment is shot in high-definition and does not use the “degraded footage” effect.
The story begins with Peter and Crusty killing a man who attempts to escape from his restraints. They then explore various locations in town, including a celebration where they watch fireworks. Later, Peter is seen in his basement tormenting a semi-conscious man with nails driven into his body. The pair go on a hike, attack a sleeping vagrant under a bridge, and brutally cut open a man to remove his intestines.
At a party, Peter consumes drugs while Crusty flirts with other women. A live rat is fed to a pet alligator as part of their chaotic behavior. Around Christmas, they break into a family’s home, where Peter violently assaults and kills the parents. Crusty strangles the couple’s young daughter when she discovers them. Afterward, Crusty opens presents and falls asleep beside the corpses.
In another scene, Crusty engages in rough sexual activity with a man during a band performance. Meanwhile, Peter and Crusty continue their violent spree by torturing and murdering several people in their basement. They also disassemble a dead deer and feed its remains to a lion with the help of a friend.
The film concludes with Peter beating a man to death with a hammer while Crusty drinks the victim’s blood. Together, they dismember a female body, highlighting their relentless brutality. Throughout the movie, Peter and Crusty partake in various recreational activities, such as shooting on a makeshift range and racing ATVs, showcasing their disturbing lives.
