Description: Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, released in 2021, is a romantic drama that tells the story of Manvinder Munjal (played by Ayushmann Khurrana), a fitness enthusiast in his early 30s who is struggling with societal pressure to settle down. Despite his impressive physique, Manu remains single, much to the frustration of his family, who insist he marry any suitable woman.
Manu’s life takes a turn when he meets Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor), a Zumba instructor who brings a fresh wave of energy and clients to his struggling gym. As they spend more time together, Manu falls in love with Maanvi, and their relationship deepens. However, a shocking revelation about Maanvi’s transgender identity shakes Manu’s world, forcing him to confront his own biases and societal norms.
The film explores their journey as they navigate the challenges of their relationship, addressing themes of love, acceptance, and identity. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the screenplay, written by Supratik Sen and Tushar Paranjpe, follows a structured narrative. The first act introduces the characters, the second reveals the central conflict, and the third focuses on their efforts to overcome it.
While Ayushmann Khurrana’s performance is commendable, the film’s humor lacks the consistency seen in his previous works like Badhaai Ho and Bala. Some jokes land well, while others fall flat. The sensitive nature of the topic is handled thoughtfully, though it might not meet the comedic expectations set by Khurrana’s earlier films. Overall, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui offers a heartfelt take on love and acceptance in the face of societal judgment.
