Description: Flint Lockwood, a young aspiring scientist, lives with his widowed father, Tim, and his pet monkey, Steve, in Swallow Falls—a small island in the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s economy relies heavily on sardines, but their unpopularity worldwide leads to a decline, forcing the residents to survive on a limited, sardine-based diet. Determined to improve the situation, Flint invents the FLDSMDFR, a machine capable of turning water into food. Despite his father’s disapproval—who wants Flint to take over the family fishing shop—Flint proceeds with his plan.
During the machine’s initial activation, it causes a power outage, prompting Flint to connect it to a local substation. This causes the device to malfunction, sending it into the sky and destroying a sardine-themed amusement park meant to revive the town. The incident earns Flint the community’s anger, along with the disdain of Samantha Sparks, a local reporter, and his father’s disappointment. However, the situation takes a surprising turn when cheeseburgers begin falling from the sky, revealing that the FLDSMDFR is now operating in the stratosphere, creating food-based weather systems.
The town celebrates its newfound abundance of food and rebrands itself as Chewandswallow, attracting tourists and turning Flint into a local hero. Flint and Sam grow closer as she shares her childhood struggles of being ridiculed for her glasses and passion for meteorology. However, Flint soon realizes that the FLDSMDFR is malfunctioning as the food starts growing excessively large. Despite his warnings, the town’s mayor ignores the issue. A spaghetti tornado threatens the town, and Flint tries to shut the machine down, but the mayor accidentally destroys the control device, causing the FLDSMDFR to spiral out of control and unleash a global food storm.
