Description: The 2019 film “Coma” explores a unique premise where the characters exist within a coma-induced world constructed from their collective memories. In this surreal reality, locations from various places blend together, often with inconsistencies due to gaps in people’s memories. Viktor, the protagonist, discovers that everyone in this world is in a coma, and it’s here that their memories create the environment they inhabit.
The story follows Viktor and a group of soldiers who live a post-apocalyptic lifestyle, constantly at war with the Reapers, dangerous entities capable of turning anyone they touch into one of their own. Fortunately, the soldiers possess more than just conventional weapons like guns and grenades to defend themselves. Each character has a unique ability reminiscent of the dream warriors in *A Nightmare on Elm Street 3*. For instance, Phantom has superhuman strength and speed, Spirit can summon ghost-like illusions, Astronomer maps the coma world, and Fly has the power to heal wounds. Viktor must uncover his own special ability to survive in this bizarre reality.
The group is led by Yan, played by Konstantin Lavronenko, who reveals the truth about their situation. Yan once awoke from his coma and returned with critical knowledge, including the fact that one day in the real world equates to at least one hundred days in the coma world. This means that if Viktor remains in his coma for an extended period, he could end up living a thousand years within this dreamlike realm.
“Coma” feels like a fusion of *Inception*, *A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors*, and *The Matrix*. One of its standout sequences involves the soldiers raiding a heavily fortified building to gather explosives, showcasing the blend of action and surrealism that defines the film.
