Description: “Darlings,” released in 2022, is an Indian Hindi-language black comedy drama film. Directed by Jasmeet K. Reen in her directorial debut and co-written by Parveez Sheikh, the movie is produced by Gauri Khan, Alia Bhatt (in her first production venture), and Gaurav Verma under Red Chillies Entertainment and Eternal Sunshine Productions. The cast includes Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, and Roshan Mathew. It premiered on Netflix on August 5, 2022.
Set in a conservative lower-middle-class neighborhood in Mumbai, the story follows a unique mother-daughter duo as they navigate challenging circumstances, discovering courage and love while striving to find their place in the world.
The project was announced in March 2021, with the lead cast revealed alongside production details. Vishal Bhardwaj composed the music, with lyrics by Gulzar. Filming began on July 3, 2021, in Mumbai and concluded on September 7, 2021. Originally intended for theatrical release, the distribution rights were acquired by Netflix India in February 2022 for ₹75-80 crores (US$9.6-10.3 million).
Promotional efforts included a video and motion logo in March 2021, followed by a teaser poster. Netflix India released a promotional video featuring the cast in May 2022. The official teaser and posters were unveiled on July 5, 2022, while the trailer launched on July 25, 2022, accompanied by a supporting event.
