Description: “Death Rink 2021: A Review”
As a critic, “Death Rink” leaves me perplexed. As a viewer, my reaction is straightforward: turn it off immediately, demand a refund, and ensure no one else suffers through this film by disposing of it permanently.
The movie raises a critical question: how does one evaluate something as poorly made as “Death Rink”? The answer lies in understanding its origins. Produced by Wild Eye Releasing, known for distributing low-budget horror films, “Death Rink” exemplifies their tendency to release subpar content. After the decline of similar distributors like Brain Damage Films and Midnight Releasing, Wild Eye has become synonymous with low-quality VOD horror.
Occasionally, Wild Eye surprises with unconventional titles like “President Wolfman,” but their catalog is overwhelmingly dominated by poorly made films. “Death Rink” is a prime example, joining the ranks of other disastrous releases such as “Paranormal Sex Tape.” Directed by an individual hiding behind the pseudonym Dick Van Dark, “Paranormal Sex Tape” was a nonsensical compilation of random footage, blurry visuals, and inconsistent audio. It seemed as though the filmmaker had no intention of creating a coherent narrative, and the distributor simply aimed to profit from minimal effort.
In essence, “Death Rink” embodies the worst traits of Wild Eye Releasing’s catalog, making it a film best avoided at all costs.
