The project’s origins trace back to July 23, 2019, when Netflix revealed that Kid Cudi and Ian Edelman would write and produce an animated series inspired by Cudi’s album “Entergalactic.” The collaboration between Cudi and Edelman began with the HBO series “How to Make It in America” in 2010. Cudi serves as an executive producer alongside Kenya Barris, through their production companies Mad Solar and Khalabo Ink Society.
In September 2021, Cudi expressed gratitude to the team for their support in bringing his vision to life, assuring fans that the project would exceed expectations. In an August 2022 interview with Esquire, Cudi shared that he composed the music first, crafting songs about the beauty of love, and then developed the story. The decision to release it as a television special was announced later that month.
The cast features an impressive lineup, including Jessica Williams, Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens, Christopher Abbott, 070 Shake, Teyana Taylor, Jaden Smith, Keith David, Arturo Castro, and Macaulay Culkin.
