Description: “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time,” released in 2021, continues the epic saga of the Evangelion series. The story unfolds in Paris, where Maya Ibuki leads a team from the Wille organization, working on a project to restore the city to its former glory. When Nerv forces attack, Mari Illustrious Makinami, piloting Unit-08, defends the team, successfully defeating the attackers and aiding in the restoration of Paris.
Meanwhile, Asuka Shikinami Langley, Rei Ayanami, and a despondent Shinji Ikari wander the outskirts of Tokyo-3. They eventually find a settlement of survivors, reuniting with old friends Toji Suzuhara, now a doctor with a child, and Kensuke Aida, a technician. Asuka, frustrated with Shinji’s state, forces him to eat, while Rei adapts to village life as a farmer. Shinji meets Ryoji Kaji, the son of Misato Katsuragi, who died preventing the Third Impact. Rei’s condition worsens as she struggles to maintain herself, decomposing in Shinji’s presence.
When Wunder arrives to retrieve Asuka, Shinji decides to join her despite objections. He is placed in isolation aboard the ship. Meanwhile, Kozo Fuyutsuki, troubled by Gendo Ikari’s harsh treatment of Shinji, assists Gendo in reactivating Unit-13. Wunder heads to Antarctica, where Asuka confesses her feelings for Shinji, acknowledging his growth.
Upon arrival, Wunder faces an assault from Nerv ships and a swarm of EVAs. Asuka and Mari, in their units, defend the fleet. Unit-13 appears, creating an A.T. Field and overpowering Asuka’s Unit-02. Asuka is revealed to be a clone of the Shikinami series just before her unit is destroyed. Meanwhile, Wunder is attacked by a new EVA, Unit-07.
In the Nerv vessel, Misato and Ritsuko Akagi confront Gendo, only to discover he has transcended humanity using the Key of Nebuchadnezzar, becoming the Final Angel. The story crescendos with intense battles and revelations, culminating in a dramatic and emotional conclusion to the Evangelion saga.
