Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma, a qualified Chartered Accountant, is searching for a job. He and his sister, Ratna, have no relatives or acquaintances except Dr. Kedar. Dr. Kedar informs him about an opening at Bhavani Shankar’s company, Urmila Traders.
Sharma enjoys sports and music, while Shankar is a man of traditional values. Shankar disapproves of modern attire, sports-oriented youth, and especially men without moustaches, whom he considers lacking character. Sharma, who sports a moustache, takes Dr. Kedar’s advice and attends the interview dressed in a kurta while pretending to have no interest in sports. Impressed, Shankar hires him immediately.
Sharma proves to be hardworking and excels at his job. However, one day, he takes a day off under the false pretext of his late mother’s illness to attend a hockey match. Shankar, who is also at the match, spots him. The next day, Shankar questions Sharma about his absence. Drawing inspiration from a movie plot his friend is working on, Sharma convinces Shankar that he has an identical, moustache-less twin named Lakshmanprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma, also known as Lucky, whom Shankar must have seen at the stadium.
Shankar believes Sharma’s story and apologizes for accusing him. To make amends, he hires Lucky to teach music to his daughter, Urmila. Reluctantly, Sharma shaves off his moustache to impersonate Lucky and begins teaching Urmila. He receives help from his actor friend, Deven Verma.
