Initially planned for a U.S. theatrical release, the film faced multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Internationally, it premiered in theaters starting with Belgium on July 29, 2020. Despite its challenges, the film received generally positive reviews and grossed $52.3 million globally against a $35 million budget. The plot follows structural engineer John Garrity, who lives in Atlanta with his estranged wife, Allison, and their diabetic son, Nathan. As the family prepares to witness the passing of a comet named “Clarke,” they receive an emergency alert announcing their selection for sheltering. A comet fragment unexpectedly strikes Tampa, Florida, causing widespread destruction. John is instructed to head to Robins Air Force Base for evacuation, as Clarke is on a collision course with Earth, threatening global catastrophe.
During their journey, Nathan’s critical insulin is accidentally left behind, leading to complications at the base. Despite their efforts, Allison and Nathan are denied boarding due to Nathan’s medical condition, leaving John to face the challenges ahead.
