Description: Har Har Byomkesh is a 2015 Indian Bengali mystery thriller film directed by Arindam Sil and produced by Mahendra Soni, Shrikant Mohta, and Nispal Singh Rane under Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films. The movie features the iconic fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi, created by Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay. It stars Abir Chatterjee as Byomkesh, with Ritwick Chakraborty as his assistant Ajit Bandopadhyay and Sohini Sarkar as Satyabati.
The film’s teaser was unveiled on October 11, 2015, followed by the trailer release on October 15, 2015. It officially hit theaters on December 18, 2015. The story begins in Benaras, where Inspector Ratikant Choudhury invites Byomkesh, Ajit, and Satyabati to a party hosted by zamindar Deepnarayan Singh to celebrate his recovery from a prolonged illness. However, Deepnarayan dies the next day under suspicious circumstances. Byomkesh takes on the case to uncover the truth behind his murder.
As the investigation unfolds, Byomkesh identifies two possible motives: financial gain and an illicit relationship. The list of suspects grows, and Byomkesh becomes intrigued by a painting of Dushyanta and Shakuntala, created by Deepnarayan’s wife, Shakuntala. Although he cannot initially grasp its significance, he later discovers that Deepnarayan had been bedridden for a long time and that Shakuntala is pregnant. The narrative follows Byomkesh, Ajit, DSP Purandhar Pandey, and Satyabati as they piece together the mystery.
Sohini Sarkar was cast as Satyabati, while Nusrat Jahan replaced Aditi Rao Hydari in the role of Shakuntala after the latter exited the project. The antagonist’s role was played by Shadab Kamal, marking his debut in Bengali cinema. Supporting roles were portrayed by Adil Hussain, Harsh Chhaya, June Malia, Rachel White, and Subrat Dutta. Additionally, Shinjini Kulkarni, granddaughter of Pandit Birju Maharaj, was brought in for a mujra sequence.
