Description: In 1944, the Nazis, aided by Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin, constructed a dimensional portal near Scotland’s coast to release the Ogdru Jahad and secure victory over the Allies. Rasputin, with his disciples Ilsa von Haupstein and Karl Ruprecht Kroenen, activates the portal. However, an Allied team, led by young scientist Trevor Bruttenholm (known as “Broom”), destroys the portal. In the chaos, Rasputin is absorbed, while Haupstein and Kroenen escape. The Allies discover an infant demon with a stone-like right hand, naming him Hellboy. Bruttenholm adopts and raises him.
Sixty years later, Kroenen and Haupstein revive Rasputin. FBI agent John Myers is assigned to the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) at Bruttenholm’s request. There, Myers meets the adult Hellboy and Abe Sapien, a psychic, amphibious humanoid. Hellboy investigates a museum incident, battling a creature named Samael. After defeating it, Hellboy visits Liz Sherman, a former BPRD member with unstable pyrokinetic abilities, now in a mental hospital. Abe discovers that Rasputin has given Samael the power to reincarnate, with two eggs hatching each time Samael is killed. Abe also learns Bruttenholm is terminally ill.
Determined to destroy Samael’s eggs, Hellboy, Abe, and FBI agents enter the sewers. Abe is injured, and Kroenen kills most of the agents. Mechanically sustained, Kroenen pretends to be defeated and is taken to the bureau. FBI Director Tom Manning reprimands Hellboy for his recklessness. Meanwhile, Myers takes Liz for coffee, prompting a jealous Hellboy to secretly follow them, leaving the bureau unguarded.
