Genre: Horror;Mystery;Thriller
Description: The 2018 film *Hereditary* begins with a scene focused on a tree house viewed from a workshop window, transitioning into a bedroom inside a dollhouse. Steve Graham wakes his teenage son Peter and 13-year-old daughter Charlie for the funeral of their 78-year-old grandmother, Ellen Taper Leigh. Steve finds Charlie sleeping in the tree house.

Annie, Steve’s wife and an artist who creates miniature dioramas, delivers the eulogy at her mother’s funeral. During the service, Charlie makes a clucking sound while drawing a peculiar sketch. Later, Annie talks to Charlie at bedtime, where Charlie mentions that her grandmother always wished she had been born a boy. Charlie also expresses uncertainty about who will care for her now that Ellen is gone.

Annie experiences a haunting vision of Ellen after looking through a memory book in her workshop. Meanwhile, at school, a bird crashes into a classroom window and dies. Charlie goes outside and cuts off the bird’s head, while a woman across the street waves at her.

Annie tells Steve she is going to see a movie but instead attends a grief counseling session. At the meeting, she opens up about her mother’s mental health struggles, including dissociative identity disorder and dementia.

Peter, tasked with watching Charlie, leaves her unsupervised to smoke marijuana with his friends. At a party, Charlie unknowingly consumes chocolate cake containing an allergen and begins choking from an anaphylactic reaction.
