Description: The 2000 film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” revolves around the Whos of Whoville, who love celebrating Christmas. However, the Grinch, a grumpy green creature living in a cave on Mount Crumpit, despises the holiday and is disliked by the Whos for his mean-spirited nature. Six-year-old Cindy Lou Who believes that people are too focused on gifts and festivities, neglecting personal relationships. She meets the Grinch at the post office and later discovers his tragic past.
The Grinch arrived in Whoville as a baby and was adopted by two elderly sisters. As a child, he was shy and not as cruel as he would become in adulthood. In school, he had a crush on Martha May Whovier, who seemed to like him back. However, a bully named Augustus MayWho, jealous of Martha’s attention toward the Grinch, targeted him. One Christmas, the Grinch made a Christmas angel gift for Martha but accidentally cut his face while shaving after MayWho teased him about having a beard. The next day, his classmates and teacher mocked him for his injury, causing him to lash out, declare his hatred for Christmas, and flee to Mount Crumpit, where he has lived ever since.
Cindy Lou nominates the Grinch as Whoville’s “Holiday Cheermeister,” angering MayWho, now the town’s mayor. She climbs Mount Crumpit to invite the Grinch to the celebration, and he eventually agrees, hoping to confront MayWho and reconnect with Martha. As the Cheermeister, the Grinch participates in events and begins to enjoy himself. However, MayWho sabotages the moment by gifting him an electric razor, reminding the Grinch of his childhood humiliation. MayWho further provokes the Grinch by proposing to Martha with a flashy ring and a new car.
