Description: Marla Grayson, a cunning con artist, earns her living by tricking the court into appointing her as the legal guardian of elderly individuals who live independently, falsely claiming they are incapable of caring for themselves. Once appointed, she isolates them in assisted living facilities, severs their ties with the outside world, and seizes their assets for her own gain.
Her scheme takes an unexpected turn when Dr. Karen Amos, her accomplice, tips her off about Jennifer Peterson, a wealthy retiree with no family. Dr. Amos provides false testimony in court, leading to Marla being appointed as Jennifer’s guardian. Marla relocates Jennifer to a facility and discovers a stash of valuable diamonds in her safety deposit box.
However, Marla is unaware that Jennifer is the mother of Roman Lunyov, a former Russian mob boss. When Roman learns of the situation, he sends his men to investigate. They uncover Marla’s fraud, and Roman’s lawyer offers her a payment to relinquish guardianship. Marla refuses, and the lawyer threatens her. Despite his efforts to expose Marla in court, the judge dismisses the case due to the lawyer’s refusal to reveal his clients’ identities.
Realizing the danger she’s in, Jennifer warns Marla. Roman’s henchmen attempt to infiltrate the facility to retrieve Jennifer, but their escape is thwarted, and they are arrested by the police. Marla connects the dots, uncovering Jennifer’s true identity and realizing Roman’s involvement. She also learns of Dr. Amos’s suspicious death.
Marla’s girlfriend, Fran, urges her to flee, but Marla refuses. Instead, she retaliates by committing Jennifer to a psychiatric ward.
