Description: Janhit Mein Jaari (2022) is a Bollywood film that blends comedy with social messaging. The story follows Manokamna Tripathi, a young woman who is an ideal candidate for a traditional Indian marriage but finds herself in an unconventional profession—marketing condoms. Her job becomes a source of societal judgment, as many struggle to accept that a “respectable” woman could engage in such work. The film uses humor effectively, even playfully referring to condoms as “umbrellas,” to address the stigma around discussing safe sex.
The movie starts strong, with sharp direction by Jai Basantu Singh and clever writing by Raaj Shaandilyaa, known for *Dream Girl*. The first half is engaging and witty, but the second half takes a drastic turn, losing its initial charm and falling into a predictable and disappointing narrative.
Nushrratt Bharuccha portrays a relatable character from Chanderi who faces unemployment and pressure to marry. She takes a job at a condom company, which solves her financial problems but creates new challenges. While she excels at her job and finds a supportive husband, her conservative in-laws are less than thrilled about her profession, sparking further conflict.
Janhit Mein Jaari attempts to balance humor with a serious message about sexual health, but its uneven execution leaves much to be desired.
