**Storyline:**
Harry Lockhart accidentally lands a screen test when he displays remorse during an audition, which casting director Dabney Shaw mistakes for method acting. While in New York, Harry botches a burglary and ends up in Los Angeles, where he reunites with his childhood crush, Harmony Lane. He also meets “Gay” Perry van Shrike, a private investigator tasked with coaching Harry for his screen test.
At a party hosted by retired actor Harlan Dexter, tensions arise over a family inheritance dispute involving Dexter’s estranged daughter, Veronica. During a stakeout at Big Bear Lake, Perry and Harry witness a car being dumped into the lake. They discover a female body in the trunk but decide not to report it after Perry accidentally shoots the corpse during a rescue attempt.
Harry learns Harmony’s sister, Jenna, supposedly committed suicide, but confusion deepens when he finds Veronica’s body in his bathroom. After disposing of the body with Perry, Harry discovers Jenna used Harmony’s credit card to hire Perry. Confronted by Harmony, Harry’s lies about being a private investigator are exposed, leading to a violent accident that leaves Harry injured.
At a later event, Harry is attacked by two men, Mr. Frying Pan and Mr. Fire, who warn him to stop investigating. Harmony and Harry follow them to Perry’s stakeout, resulting in a chaotic confrontation. A food-cart operator kills Mr. Frying Pan, but Mr. Fire later kills a pink-haired girl linked to the duo. Harry ultimately kills Mr. Fire, bringing the dangerous events to a close.
