Genre: Action;Adventure;Drama
Description: In Canada, a young writer encounters Pi Patel, who shares a captivating life story worthy of a book. Pi recounts his journey, beginning with his unique name, Piscine Molitor Patel, inspired by a French swimming pool. In secondary school in Pondicherry, he adopts the name “Pi” to avoid a mocking nickname. Raised in a Hindu family, Pi discovers Christianity and Islam at age 12, choosing to embrace all three religions out of a desire to love God. While his mother supports his spiritual exploration, his rationalist father attempts to steer him toward secular beliefs. The family owns a zoo, where Pi develops a fascination with the animals, particularly a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. After a dangerous encounter, Pi’s father forces him to witness the tiger’s predatory nature.

At 16, Pi’s family decides to move to Canada, planning to sell their animals. They board a Japanese freighter with the zoo creatures, but during a storm, the ship sinks. Pi is thrown into a lifeboat, joined by a zebra with a broken leg. The ship disappears into the Mariana Trench, taking his family with it. Pi later discovers Richard Parker in the lifeboat. Stranded at sea, Pi shares the boat with the zebra, an orangutan, and a hyena. The hyena kills the zebra and orangutan, only to be slain by Richard Parker. Pi crafts a small raft for safety and begins fishing to sustain the tiger. When the tiger threatens him, Pi hesitates but ultimately saves Richard Parker from drowning. A humpback whale destroys the raft, leaving Pi with no choice but to coexist with the tiger. Through training and mutual survival, Pi realizes that caring for Richard Parker helps him endure the ordeal.
