Description: The 2020 film “Love and Monsters” tells the story of a world transformed by chaos. When an asteroid headed for Earth is destroyed, its chemical fallout causes cold-blooded animals to mutate into massive monsters, wiping out most of humanity. During the evacuation of Fairfield, Joel Dawson is separated from his girlfriend, Aimee, and tragically loses his parents. Despite the devastation, Joel vows to reunite with Aimee.
Seven years later, Joel resides in an underground bunker known as a “colony,” where survivors live in constant fear of the monsters above. While others have formed romantic pairs and bravely face the dangers outside, Joel remains isolated, often freezing in perilous situations. When a giant ant breaches their colony, resulting in the death of a fellow survivor, Joel decides to leave the safety of the bunker and embark on a journey to find Aimee, determined not to face the world alone.
As Joel navigates the treacherous outside world, he encounters various mutated creatures. He is saved from a giant toad-monster by a stray dog he names “Boy,” who becomes his loyal companion, guiding him away from dangers like poisonous berries. Joel’s journey takes a dangerous turn when he falls into a nest of worm-like monsters called “Sand-Gobblers.” He is rescued by two survivors, Clyde Dutton and Minnow, who are heading north to the mountains, where fewer monsters roam due to the colder climate. They teach Joel essential survival skills and share a valuable lesson: not all monsters are hostile, and their true nature can often be discerned by their eyes. Though Clyde and Minnow invite Joel to join them, he remains steadfast in his mission to find Aimee. Before parting ways, Clyde gifts Joel a grenade for protection.
Continuing his journey, Joel faces another challenge when Boy is trapped by a giant centipede-monster. Despite his initial hesitation, Joel overcomes his fear and saves his companion using his crossbow. Later, they take shelter in an abandoned motel and encounter a robot named Mav1s. Before its battery dies, Mav1s powers Joel’s radio, allowing him to briefly contact Aimee. He learns that other survivors have reached her colony and are planning to lead everyone to safety. The following day, Joel and Boy must confront a Queen Sand-Gobbler in a desperate struggle for survival.
