Description: In Modesto, California, Susan Murphy is preparing to marry news weatherman Derek Dietl. Moments before the ceremony, she is struck by a meteorite, causing her to emit a green glow and grow to an enormous height of 49 feet and 11 inches. Her hair also turns white during the chaos. As the church collapses, everyone flees, and Derek is knocked unconscious by falling debris, but Susan, now a giant, saves him. The U.S. military quickly tranquilizes and captures her.
Susan awakens in a top-secret government facility housing monsters unknown to the public. There, she meets General W.R. Monger, who oversees the facility, and her fellow monster inmates: Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., a scientist turned half-human, half-cockroach due to a failed experiment; B.O.B., a brainless, blue goo-like creature born from a food flavoring mutation; Insectosaurus, a 350-foot-tall bug mutated by nuclear radiation that once attacked Tokyo; and The Missing Link, a 20,000-year-old fish-ape hybrid thawed from deep ice. The government dubs Susan “Ginormica” and forbids her from contacting her loved ones, leaving her feeling isolated and lonely.
Meanwhile, in deep space, a squid-like alien named Gallaxhar detects the presence of quantonium, a potent energy source on Earth. He sends a robotic probe to retrieve it. The probe lands on Earth, where the U.S. President attempts to communicate by playing “Axel F,” but the probe becomes destructive, heading toward San Francisco despite military efforts to stop it. General Monger persuades the President to free the monsters in exchange for their help in stopping the probe and saving the city.
In San Francisco, the robot identifies the quantonium within Ginormica and tries to extract it, threatening countless lives. The monsters must now work together to save the day and prove their worth as heroes.
