Description: In the pony town of Maretime Bay, Argyle Starshine tells his daughter Sunny Starscout stories about the old Equestria, where earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns once lived together in harmony. However, most earth ponies consider these tales to be mere myths and have grown fearful of the other pony races. Inspired by her father, Sunny dreams of uniting the three races as friends.
Years later, after her father’s passing, Sunny continues her mission to change the minds of her fellow earth ponies. During a showcase of anti-pegasi and unicorn technology by Phyllis Cloverleaf, Sunny disrupts the event. Her childhood friend, Hitch, the town sheriff, intervenes and attempts to take her home. Suddenly, a unicorn named Izzy Moonbow arrives in town. While most earth ponies flee, Sunny befriends Izzy and hides her from Hitch and his deputy, Sprout.
Sunny learns from Izzy that unicorns have lost their magic. Determined to restore it, she decides to accompany Izzy to Zephyr Heights, the home of the pegasi, in hopes of finding a solution and reuniting the pony tribes. As Sunny and Izzy journey to Zephyr Heights, Hitch pursues them, leaving Sprout in charge. Sprout, driven by ambition, incites the townsfolk into a hostile mob and orders his mother’s factory to build a massive war machine to prepare for a potential invasion.
Upon reaching Zephyr Heights, Sunny and Izzy are captured by guards and brought before Queen Haven and her daughters, Pipp Petals and Zipp Storm. When Sunny inquires about magic, the queen has them imprisoned. Zipp secretly visits them in the dungeon and reveals that the pegasi, too, have lost their ability to fly. She helps them escape and shows them an abandoned airport with evidence of past interactions between earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns. Sunny discovers a glass window depicting two crystals, one of which is in Queen Haven’s crown, that might restore magic when joined together.
