Description: The 1989 film “Noce Blanche” tells the story of Mathilde, a troubled 17-year-old living apart from her parents. Her life takes a turn when her philosophy teacher, François, crosses paths with her and decides to mentor her. He begins visiting her daily to assist with her studies, and over time, Mathilde starts showing romantic interest in him. Despite his efforts to resist, François becomes drawn to her, and their relationship evolves into a secret affair, hidden from his wife, Catherine, and the school community.
Catherine eventually discovers the affair when Mathilde calls their home incessantly. Consumed by jealousy, Mathilde harasses Catherine, even vandalizing her bookshop. Catherine confronts François, forcing him to choose between her and Mathilde. Realizing the gravity of the situation, François ends the relationship. In response, Mathilde starts dating a classmate to provoke François. However, after her friends damage Catherine’s shop again, François confronts Mathilde, but their argument ends in a passionate kiss, witnessed by students. This incident leads to François losing his job and Mathilde being expelled from school.
Following his divorce from Catherine, François moves to Dunkirk and resumes teaching. A year later, he receives tragic news from the police: Mathilde has died. Upon seeing her body, he learns she had been living alone in an apartment near his school, spending her days watching him from her window. Her death is attributed to heartbreak, leaving François devastated by the loss of his true love.
