Description: Pariyerum Perumal is a 2018 Tamil film that tells the story of a young man named Pariyerum Perumal, also known as Pariyan, from Puliyankulam village near Tirunelveli. Pariyan, portrayed by Kathir, comes from an oppressed caste. The film opens with the tragic murder of his beloved black dog, Karuppi, highlighting the harsh realities of caste dominance.

Pariyan aspires to become a lawyer, inspired by B. R. Ambedkar, and secures admission to a law college. There, he meets Jothi Mahalakshmi, or Jo, played by Anandhi, a kind-hearted girl from Ambasamudram who offers to help him learn English. Their friendship blossoms, and Jo is drawn to Pariyan’s innocence and honesty. However, their bond angers Sankaralingam, Jo’s cousin and fellow law student, who seeks to assert his caste superiority.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, an elderly man is depicted orchestrating sinister acts, such as strangling a young girl and drowning a student in a river.

At a family wedding, Pariyan faces a brutal attack from Sankaralingam and his associates, who humiliate and assault him. Jo’s father intervenes, warning Pariyan to stay away from Jo. Unaware of the incident, Jo confronts Pariyan the next day for missing her sister’s wedding, leading to an emotional confrontation. Overwhelmed, Pariyan turns to alcohol and disrupts his class, resulting in a meeting with the principal. In a desperate attempt to resolve the situation, Pariyan bribes a man to pose as his father.

Pariyerum Perumal explores themes of caste oppression, resilience, and the pursuit of justice.
