Description: Three years after the events in Vietnam, John Rambo has found peace in a Thai monastery, assisting with construction work and earning money for the monastery by participating in krabi-krabong fighting matches in Bangkok. Colonel Sam Trautman, Rambo’s former ally, approaches him with a mission to support the Mujahideen in Afghanistan against the Soviet invasion. Despite seeing images of civilian suffering, Rambo declines, weary of war. Trautman proceeds with the mission but is ambushed, resulting in the death of his team and his capture by Soviet forces, led by Colonel Zaysen and Sergeant Kourov.
When U.S. Embassy official Robert Griggs informs Rambo of Trautman’s capture, he refuses to authorize a rescue mission due to the risk of escalating U.S. involvement in the conflict. Determined to save Trautman, Rambo secures permission for a solo rescue, knowing he will be disavowed if captured or killed. He travels to Peshawar, Pakistan, where he enlists the help of arms dealer Mousa Ghani to reach Khost, the town near the Soviet base holding Trautman.
The Mujahideen, led by chieftain Masoud, are reluctant to assist Rambo. A Soviet informant alerts the enemy, who retaliate with an attack on the village. Rambo destroys one helicopter but fails to gain the rebels’ support. With only Mousa and a young boy named Hamid by his side, Rambo launches an assault on the Soviet base, causing significant damage before being forced to retreat. Both Rambo and Hamid are wounded, but Rambo sends them away and continues his mission to rescue Trautman.
