Dressed in a striking devil costume, Elton John steps into an addiction rehabilitation session, reflecting on his life through a series of flashbacks. As he grows older, he joins the band Bluesology, which performs as a backing band for American artists like The Isley Brothers and Patti LaBelle. Encouraged by Ronald Isley, Reginald decides to pursue songwriting and reinvent himself as a performer, adopting the name Elton John—combining the name of Bluesology’s saxophonist, Elton, and inspired by John Lennon.
Elton teams up with lyricist Bernie Taupin, and together they create music while navigating personal struggles. When Elton reveals his homosexuality, it leads to the end of a romantic relationship and eviction from their flat. The duo finds refuge with Elton’s grandmother and mother, where they continue writing, eventually penning the iconic “Your Song.”
