**Plot Summary:**
Ann, a crown princess from an unnamed European country, grows weary of her rigid, scheduled life during a state visit to Rome. Seeking freedom, she secretly leaves the embassy. A sedative takes effect, causing her to fall asleep on a bench, where she is found by Joe Bradley, an American reporter working for the “American News Service.” Mistaking her for an intoxicated passerby, Joe allows her to stay the night in his apartment.

The next morning, Joe rushes to work and tries to deceive his editor, Mr. Hennessy, about attending the princess’s press conference. Upon learning the event was canceled and seeing a photo of the princess declared ill, Joe realizes the woman in his apartment is Ann. Spotting a golden opportunity, he contacts Irving Radovich, a photographer friend, to secretly capture photos of the princess. Joe then promises Hennessy an exclusive interview with Ann, securing a $5,000 offer for the story.

Returning home, Joe conceals his identity as a reporter and offers to show Ann—who introduces herself as Anya—around Rome. She initially declines but later enjoys her newfound freedom, exploring a market, buying shoes, and cutting her long hair into a chic, short style. Joe follows her and “accidentally” meets her at the Spanish Steps. This time, he convinces her to spend the day together.

The pair visits iconic Roman landmarks, including the Mouth of Truth, where Joe playfully tricks Ann, and the Colosseum. Their adventures take a turn when Ann attempts to drive a Vespa through heavy traffic, leading to their arrest. Joe and Irving use fake press passes to secure their release.

“Roman Holiday” is a timeless classic that captures the essence of freedom, romance, and adventure in the heart of Rome.
