Description: In a flashback, Hiko Seijūrō discovers a young boy named Shinta digging graves for bandits and slavers killed in battle. Shinta explains that after death, all people are just bodies. Impressed, Hiko decides to take Shinta as his student and renames him “Kenshin.” Years later, Himura Kenshin wakes up at Master Hiko’s home after being unconscious for three days. He asks if his friend Kaoru was also washed ashore, but Hiko believes she is likely dead. Kenshin requests to learn the ultimate Hiten Mitsurugi technique, “Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki,” to defeat Shishio Makoto and prevent his tyranny. Hiko agrees, and their training begins with a duel.
Meanwhile, Shishio arrives off the coast of Tokyo in a massive black iron-clad battleship. He demands that the home minister, Ito Hirobumi, meet him to discuss the situation. During the meeting, one of the ministers loses his temper and is killed by Shishio’s henchman. Shishio takes the remaining ministers prisoner, sparing only the prime minister. He issues an ultimatum: Battousai (Kenshin) must be delivered to him, or he will expose the government’s dark secrets. Saito Hajime, also known as Fujita, is disgusted by the government’s compliance with Shishio’s blackmail and continues his search for Battousai.
Elsewhere, Yahiko Myojin discovers a poster calling for Kenshin’s arrest, which convinces him and Sagara that Kenshin is still alive. They set out for Tokyo with Misao to find Kenshin and search for Kaoru. As they prepare to leave, a young woman hands them a scarf, which Misao recognizes as the one she used to bandage Kaoru. They rush to a hospital and find Kaoru alive but unconscious, continuing their journey to reunite with Kenshin and face the challenges ahead.
