Detective Eric Matthews, left to die in a bathroom, escapes by breaking his foot with a toilet lid. Six months later, Officer Daniel Rigg’s SWAT team discovers the aftermath of a Jigsaw game. The victim, Troy, had to tear chains from his body to escape a bomb. Detective Allison Kerry notes that the room’s exit was welded shut, deviating from Jigsaw’s usual method of giving victims a chance to survive. While reviewing a videotape, Kerry is abducted and placed in a deadly harness. Despite retrieving the key from a beaker of acid, the trap ultimately kills her.
Dr. Lynn Denlon, a hospital worker, is kidnapped and brought to the bedridden John Kramer. His apprentice, Amanda Young, locks a shotgun-shell collar around Lynn’s neck, connecting it to John’s heart monitor. Lynn must keep him alive while another test subject, Jeff, completes his game. Jeff, a grieving father consumed by vengeance after his son’s death in a drunk driving accident, faces a series of tests in an abandoned meatpacking plant, confronting those involved in the incident.
In his first test, Jeff enters a meat freezer and finds Danica Scott, the only witness to the accident who refused to testify. She is chained inside a metal frame as ice-cold water sprays her. Jeff retrieves the key but is too late to save her, and Danica freezes to death.
This intense installment of the “Saw” franchise delves into themes of survival, retribution, and the moral complexities of justice.
