Scream VI introduces a new Ghostface killer who hunts down survivors of the “Woodsboro legacy attacks” in New York City. Staying true to the series’ roots, the film blends slasher violence with black comedy, a “whodunit” mystery, and satirical commentary on film franchise trends and audience expectations.
The project was greenlit shortly after the success of Scream (2022), with much of the original cast and directors returning. Filming occurred in Montreal, Canada, from June to August 2022. Notably, Neve Campbell did not return as Sidney Prescott, marking the first time her character is absent from the series. The film’s score was composed by Brian Tyler, with Sven Faulconer contributing as well.
Scream VI premiered at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in Manhattan on March 6, 2023, and was released in U.S. theaters on March 10 by Paramount Pictures. Critics generally praised the film, which grossed over $168 million worldwide. It became the first film in the franchise to surpass $100 million at the U.S. box office since Scream 2 (1997) and holds the record as the highest-grossing Scream film in the United States and Canada (unadjusted). Additionally, it ranks as the eighth highest-grossing film of 2023.
