Description: “Secret in Their Eyes,” released in 2015, is an American thriller directed and written by Billy Ray. It serves as a remake of the 2009 Argentine film of the same name, both inspired by Eduardo Sacheri’s novel *La pregunta de sus ojos*. The film features a star-studded cast, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman, and Julia Roberts, with supporting roles played by Dean Norris, Michael Kelly, Joe Cole, and Alfred Molina. STXfilms distributed the movie on November 20, 2015. While the performances were praised, critics often compared it unfavorably to the original.

The story begins in 2002, shortly after the 9/11 attacks. Ray Kasten, an FBI counterterrorism agent, and his close friend Jessica “Jess” Cobb, an investigator for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office, meet new Assistant District Attorney Claire Sloan. They are called to a crime scene where an unidentified female body is discovered in a dumpster near a mosque Ray has been monitoring for potential terrorist activity. To their horror, they realize the victim is Jess’s 18-year-old daughter, Carolyn. Her body has been chemically treated to eliminate DNA evidence of the crime.

Ray, who was supposed to meet Carolyn to plan a surprise party for Jess, is overwhelmed with guilt, while Jess struggles with the urge to leave the city. While helping Jess move, Ray notices a photograph from a law enforcement picnic showing a young man staring at Carolyn. Ray identifies him as Anzor Marzin, an informant in Ray’s terrorism investigation. However, District Attorney Martin Morales hesitates to pursue Marzin, fearing it could jeopardize the ongoing probe. Officer Reggie Siefert eventually brings in a suspect named Aban Ghazala, but Ray soon realizes he is not the killer.
