Rishi Kapoor, who passed away at 67 after a two-year battle with leukemia, shot for just six days in Delhi before being diagnosed with cancer.
Ranbir revealed that he traveled to Delhi to convince his father to seek treatment in the US. Despite his health concerns, Rishi Kapoor’s immediate response was about the film’s completion. While undergoing treatment, he often expressed concerns about whether he’d return to filmmaking or finish this project. Ranbir also acknowledged producer Ritesh Sidhwani for patiently waiting for his father’s recovery, which played a crucial role in his well-being at the time.
After being declared cancer-free in September, Rishi Kapoor returned to the set by December and shot for around 30 days. However, his condition relapsed. Ranbir believes his father would have wanted to pass away working passionately on a film, rather than retiring. This emotional journey makes “Sharmaji Namkeen” a poignant cinematic experience and a fitting farewell to Rishi Kapoor’s illustrious career.
