McGuire, who grew up in Ridgewood and Middletown Township, New Jersey, attended Middletown High School South before enrolling at Rutgers University. She allegedly placed his remains into a three-piece suitcase set, which was later discovered in Chesapeake Bay. The first suitcase, containing human legs, was found by fishermen and children on May 5, 2004. A second suitcase, with the head and torso bearing three bullet wounds, was discovered on May 11. The third suitcase, containing the arms, was found on May 16.
Melanie McGuire is currently serving her life sentence at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in Clinton, New Jersey, and will not be eligible for parole until she is 100 years old.
