The story begins in the Mediterranean Sea, where Italian fishermen rescue an unconscious American man floating in the water with two gunshot wounds in his back. Although he has no memory of his identity, the man possesses remarkable combat skills and fluency in multiple languages. While treating him, the fishermen discover a laser projector embedded in his hip, which reveals the number of a safe deposit box in Zurich, Switzerland.
Upon reaching Zurich, the man accesses the deposit box and finds cash in various currencies, passports, identity cards bearing his photo, and a handgun. He adopts the name on one of the passports—Jason Bourne—and takes the items, leaving the gun behind. Meanwhile, the bank alerts Operation Treadstone, a covert CIA black ops program. Conklin, the head of Treadstone, dispatches agents to capture or eliminate Bourne.
As Bourne evades the authorities, he seeks refuge in the American consulate, but his presence triggers a chase. Narrowly escaping, he offers a German woman, Marie Kreutz, $20,000 to drive him to an address in Paris listed on his French driver’s license. Upon arriving, Bourne discovers connections to a deceased man named John Michael Kane.
The plot thickens as Bourne faces relentless pursuit from Treadstone agents, including Castel, who ambushes him at the Paris apartment. After a tense confrontation, Castel takes his own life, and Bourne and Marie find themselves on the run, marked as wanted criminals. The film unfolds with Bourne piecing together his past while battling relentless adversaries, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful narrative.
