Description: The Call of the Wild, released in 2020, follows the story of Buck, a gentle St. Bernard/Scotch Collie mix, who lives a peaceful life with his owner, Judge Miller, in late 19th-century Santa Clara, California. One fateful night, Buck is kidnapped and transported to the Yukon aboard a freighter. During the journey, he endures harsh treatment from the crew. Upon arrival, Buck is sold to Perrault and his assistant Francoise, who use him as part of their dog sled team to deliver mail across the treacherous Yukon terrain.
As Buck adapts to the harsh environment, he earns the respect and trust of his new owners and fellow sled dogs, particularly after saving Francoise from danger. Buck begins to experience visions of a black wolf, which serves as a spiritual guide throughout his journey. His growing strength and leadership skills eventually lead to a confrontation with Spitz, the aggressive husky pack leader. After a fierce struggle, Buck overcomes Spitz and assumes the role of the new leader.
Under Buck’s leadership, the team successfully completes the mail delivery on time. However, the mail route is soon replaced by the telegraph, forcing Perrault to sell the dogs. They are purchased by Hal, an inexperienced and cruel gold prospector, who overworks the team in harsh conditions, pushing them to their limits.
The film explores themes of survival, loyalty, and the untamed spirit of the wild, showcasing Buck’s transformation from a domesticated pet to a powerful leader in the wilderness.
