Description: Robert “Bob” McCall (played by Denzel Washington) is a former Marine and retired operative from the Defense Intelligence Agency. He faked his death years ago to honor a promise made to his late wife, Vivian, that he would leave his dangerous past behind. For decades, McCall has lived a quiet life in Boston, working at a Home Mart hardware store. He bonds with his colleagues, including Ralphie (Johnny Skourtis), whom he helps prepare for a security guard qualification exam. McCall, who struggles with insomnia, often spends his late nights reading at a 24/7 diner, where he befriends Alina (Chloe Grace Moretz), a teenage prostitute controlled by the Russian mafia.
One night, Alina is hospitalized after a brutal beating by her pimp, Slavi (David Meunier). Upon learning about the attack, McCall visits her in the hospital and speaks with her friend Mandy (Haley Bennett). Determined to help, McCall confronts Slavi and offers to buy Alina’s freedom for $9,800. When Slavi mocks and refuses him, McCall retaliates, killing Slavi and his four associates with precise and deadly efficiency, using their own weapons and improvised tools.
Vladimir Pushkin (Vladimir Kulich), a powerful Russian mafia leader, sends his enforcer, Teddy Rensen (Marton Csokas), to track down and eliminate the person responsible. Meanwhile, Ralphie withdraws his security guard application and takes a second job at his family’s restaurant. When corrupt police officers, Detectives Harris (Robert Wahlberg) and Gilly (Timothy John Smith), set fire to the restaurant as part of an extortion scheme, McCall intervenes. He confronts and beats the officers, forcing them to return the extorted money, threatening to expose their crimes using a video he recorded.
In the end, Ralphie returns to Home Mart, successfully passes his security guard exam, and secures the position. McCall continues his quiet life, but his actions leave a lasting impact on those around him.
