Description: The French Dispatch is a 2021 American anthology comedy film directed by Wes Anderson. The story revolves around Arthur Howitzer Jr., the editor of the fictional newspaper *The French Dispatch*. After his sudden death from a heart attack, the publication of the newspaper is halted, with one final issue released as a tribute. This farewell edition includes three reprinted articles from previous issues, along with an obituary.
The film is set in the French foreign bureau of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun and unfolds through three distinct storylines. The first segment, titled *The Concrete Masterpiece*, focuses on a troubled artist in prison, featuring actors like Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, and Léa Seydoux. The second segment, *Revisions to a Manifesto*, is inspired by the May 1968 student protests and stars Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, and Lyna Khoudri. The third story, *The Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner*, stars Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, and Stephen Park, and centers on the kidnapping of a police commissioner’s son. Bill Murray plays Arthur Howitzer Jr., while Owen Wilson appears in a brief segment introducing the fictional town of Ennui-sur-Blasé.
Originally conceived as a post-World War II musical, the project was officially announced in December 2018, with Anderson describing it as a “love letter to journalists.” Filming took place in Angoulême, France, between November 2018 and March 2019. The film was edited by Andrew Weisblum, with Alexandre Desplat composing the musical score.
