Set in the jungles of India, the story follows Mowgli, a “man-cub” raised by a wolf pack led by Akela and cared for by a mother wolf named Raksha. He was brought to them as an infant by Bagheera, a black panther. Bagheera trains Mowgli in the ways of the wolves, but the boy struggles to keep up with his wolf siblings. Akela discourages Mowgli from using human skills, such as crafting tools, insisting he adapt to the pack’s natural ways.
During a drought, jungle animals gather to drink water under a truce that allows them to quench their thirst without fear of predators. However, this peace is shattered when Shere Khan, a fierce and fire-scarred tiger, arrives. Fueled by hatred for humans, Shere Khan detects Mowgli’s scent and vows to kill him once the drought ends. To protect the pack, Mowgli decides to leave the jungle for a nearby human village, with Bagheera guiding him.
On their journey, Shere Khan ambushes them, but Mowgli escapes during a buffalo stampede. Later, he encounters Kaa, a giant python who hypnotizes him. Under her spell, Mowgli sees a vision of his father being killed by Shere Khan while protecting him. Kaa attempts to devour Mowgli, but he is rescued by Baloo, a bear. The two form a bond, and Mowgli stays with Baloo until winter arrives. Meanwhile, Shere Khan attacks the wolf pack, killing Akela, and threatens to harm the wolves to lure Mowgli back into the jungle.
The film continues to explore Mowgli’s adventures as he navigates the challenges of the jungle while evading Shere Khan’s wrath.
