Description: In 1982, during the winter, a group of Norwegian researchers from the “Thule” station in Antarctica—Lars, Peder, and Olav—unearth a buried alien spacecraft. Dr. Sander Halvorson and his assistant Adam Finch recruit Kate Lloyd, an American paleontologist, to investigate the discovery. They travel to Thule in an American helicopter piloted by Sam Carter, with co-pilot Derek Jameson and crewman Griggs. Upon arrival, they are greeted by station chief Edvard Wolner, Juliette, and Karl. After examining the spacecraft and an alien body preserved in ice, the team decides to excavate the remains. That evening, they meet the rest of the station’s crew: Jonas, Henrik, Colin, and Lars’s dog.
The following day, the alien body is extracted in a block of ice, which slowly melts in storage. During a celebration of the discovery, Jameson witnesses the alien breaking free from the ice. The team searches for the creature and discovers Lars’s dog dead. They eventually locate the alien, which kills Henrik by absorbing him and splattering blood on Olav. The group manages to destroy the alien by burning it. An autopsy reveals a metal implant outside Henrik’s body and uncovers that the alien’s cells were replicating Henrik’s. Olav becomes seriously ill.
The next morning, the helicopter crew departs with Olav to McMurdo Station. During takeoff, Kate finds dental fillings covered in blood in a shower. She rushes outside to stop the helicopter, but Griggs transforms into a monstrous creature and attacks Olav. The helicopter crashes into the mountains. Kate returns to the station and informs the team that the alien organism can assimilate and imitate its victims, revealing its presence among them. With the station’s helicopter away for refueling, the group realizes they are trapped with the alien.
