Description: The film “Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum,” released in 2017, tells the story of an inter-caste newlywed couple, Sreeja and Prasad, who move from Cherthala to Kasaragod. During a bus journey, Sreeja’s gold chain is stolen by a thief, also named Prasad. When Sreeja notices the theft, the thief swallows the chain, leading to his capture by passengers and subsequent handover to the police. At the station, the thief denies the accusation, and an X-ray reveals the chain stuck in his stomach.
The next day, when the police accompany him to the toilet, he attempts to escape but is caught by Sreeja’s husband near a canal. Returning to the station, the thief alleges that a police officer, ASI Chandran, urged him to flee with the chain. A second scan shows the chain is no longer in his stomach, prompting ASI Chandran to give Sreeja a replacement chain to cover up the incident and frame the thief.
The following day, Sreeja falsely claims the chain is hers, signing a document implicating the thief. However, in a quiet moment, the thief persuades Sreeja and her husband to stop lying, sharing his story and revealing where he discarded the chain. Sreeja’s husband retrieves it, and in the end, the thief writes a thank-you note to Sreeja for telling the truth in court, which secures his freedom.
