Vaazhl, meaning “Live,” is an Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Arun Prabhu Purushothaman and produced by Sivakarthikeyan under his production banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions. The film features a predominantly new cast, including Pradeep Anthony, TJ Bhanu, Diva Dhawan, Aahrav, and SN Bhatt in key roles. The music is composed by Pradeep Kumar, with Shelly Calist handling cinematography and Raymond Derrick Crasta overseeing editing. The film was digitally released on the streaming platform SonyLIV on July 16, 2021.
Following the success of his debut film *Aruvi*, Arun Prabhu Purushothaman dedicated time to pre-production and scriptwriting for his second project, which eventually became *Vaazhl*. He described the script as complex and challenging to translate onto the screen, which extended the writing process. Arun initially shared the script with Sivakarthikeyan, who was impressed and agreed to produce it. However, the project faced delays and changes in its development.
On May 29, 2018, producer R. D. Raja of 24AM Studios announced a collaboration with Arun Prabhu for a mixed-genre film similar to *Aruvi*. The technical team from *Aruvi*, including Shelly Calist, Raymond Derrick Crasta, and Shreeraman, was retained. However, production faced setbacks when Raja withdrew due to financial issues affecting his studio.
Sivakarthikeyan later stepped in and officially announced the project under his production banner during the audio launch of *Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja*. The first look of the film, titled *Vaazhl*, was revealed on June 27, 2019.
